Station Connections artwork
The rail partnership worked with local artist Eamonn Murphy to create pieces of art that reflect the communities around our stations. While railway stations and rail services are of key interest to the community rail movement we realise that our stations play a wider role in our communities, providing a gateway into those communities and giving local residents access to work, education and leisure.

Views Through a Train Window - Edgeley Approach Art Project
South East Manchester, Crewe to Manchester and Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnerships are working together to bring a community art project to the Edgeley Approach at Stockport Station.
Whilst this is a busy thoroughfare with a high daily footfall, this side of the station has seen little development compared to the main entrance.
Supported by Avanti West Coast and Network Rail, the art project will see an exhibition of up to 40 artworks displayed along the historic wall, each framed within a train window designed by local artist, Eamonn Murphy.
Schools, colleges, community groups and individual artists have submitted artwork for long term display at the station.
Thomson Street Bridge Mural
A project led by Cheshire Wildlife Trust along with Stockport Council, Avanti, the Crewe to Manchester Community Rail Partnership, ARC and artist Caroline Coates has transformed the Thomson Street Bridge, which connects Edgeley and Stockport Town Centre over Stockport railway line and not far from the Edgeley approach to Stockport train station, with a new mural which includes some of the town’s landmarks, including Stockport market, the viaduct, Bramhall Hall and wildlife. The mural is a celebration of Stockport’s green spaces and places.
Chelford Station art project
Students from Chelford C of E Primary School created two artworks for nearby Chelford Station to mark the 200-year anniversary of the railways. The project was spearheaded by the headteacher, Andy Brady, and wholly supported by the Friends of Chelford Station. Funding and additional support was provided by the Crewe to Manchester CRP (that’s us) and Northern.
Holmes Chapel Station art project and fundraising
Students from Hermitage Primary School created artworks following their visit to Holmes Chapel Station, as part of a project spearheaded by Station Master Graham Blake with support from the volunteers and Friends of Holmes Chapel Station and Viaduct. The art is now on display at the station, where some of the creations were sold on postcards, raising £200 for the school.
