The station serves both Elworth, and the market town of Sandbach itself, which is one mile away. The station benefits from two direct services an hour to Manchester, one via Stockport and one via Manchester Airport. Sandbach has a historic old town centre, based around the market square.

The nearby Trent and Mersey Canal and Wheelock Rail Trail provide opportunities for walks in the area.
