Mauldeth Road Station, situated in south Manchester on the airport spur, serves the busy suburb of Ladybarn popular with students and city centre commuters. It first opened in 1909 as Mauldeth Road for Withington (name shortened in 1974) and has always been a busy, well-used station.
There is a staffed ticket office and a ticket machine. Both platforms have step-free access, with a car park available for station passengers beside platform 2.
The station is cared for by the Friends of Mauldeth Road Station (FoMRS), who work hard to make the station a pleasant place for passengers and to help integrate the station with the local community. Just five minutes walk from the station is the attractive Ladybarn Park, which is open from dawn until dusk each day and has a children’s play area, tennis courts and ample space to walk and enjoy a bucolic green space on the edge of the city.
