Following a fire in Standedge Tunnel, TransPennine Express train services will be affected until repairs are complete, hopefully by Thursday 29 January.
The train line is closed between Marsden and Stalybridge. Where possible, services will be diverted over the Calder Valley or operated by rail replacement buses.
As of Tuesday 27 January, train services will be operated in both directions for:
- Liverpool Lime Street – Manchester Victoria calling additionally at Newton-le-Willows
- Manchester Airport – Middlesborough (this service will not call at Redcar Central or Saltburn)
- Manchester Piccadilly – Greenfield calling at Stalybridge and Mossley (limited AM and PM peak service)
- Marsden – York via Wakefield Kirkgate (limited AM and PM peak service)
There are rail replacement bus services being operated on the following routes:
- Stalybridge-Huddersfield calling at Mossley, Greenfield, Slaithwaite and Marsden
- Huddersfield-Manchester Piccadilly calling at Marsden, Slaithwaite, Greenfield, Mossley and Stalybridge
Passengers in Manchester who wish to travel to Huddersfield are advised to depart from Manchester Victoria and alight at Dewsbury, where a rail replacement service will connect them to their destination.
The services will be monitored and reviewed constantly, with some cancelled or operated at short notice. Passengers are advised to check the status of their service before travelling and anticipate disrupted journeys until the tunnel is repaired.
