A vibrant community art project at Holmes Chapel Railway Station has successfully raised £200 for Hermitage Primary School, celebrating both local creative talent and the village’s welcoming spirit for global visitors!
The initiative saw Hermitage Primary School’s teacher Kate Whelan and her pupils collaborate closely with Station Master Graham Blake, alongside the Volunteers and Friends of Holmes Chapel Station and Viaduct. The children visited and explored the station, be
fore using their experience to create colourful artworks. These wonderful creations are now displayed at Holmes Chapel Station, in a dedicated poster care close to the booking office and on the office windows.
Select pieces of the artworks were used to create unique postcards that were available to buy at the booking office. They have proven popular so far, successfully raising £200 which has been donated to help support the school. Station Master Graham Blake officially presented the proceeds to teacher Kate Whelan in July 2026.
Headmaster Adam Young, the station volunteers, school staff, and the children themselves have expressed immense pride in the success and enjoyment of this meaningful community partnership.
