Passengers can now use their journeys from Stockport station on the Buxton Line for creative pursuits and mindful activities, courtesy of the wonderful Creative Journeys project.
The project, a joint endeavour from No Jobs in the Arts CIC, High Peak and Hope Valley Community Rail Partnership, Avanti West Coast, and Northern Trains, invited two early-career disabled artists to undertake a ‘creative rail residency’.
The chosen pair – River Glade and Alice Hackney – were invited to spend time exploring the train line, stations, environment and attractions along the line from Stockport to Buxton stations.
Their observations, reflections and creative responses have been transformed into imaginative and mindful activities, creating an activity leaflet that is designed to inspire others to be creative on the move.
Passengers travelling along the line won’t fail to spot the brightly coloured leaflets at the stations, but the content is also available to view online on the project website: www.nojobsinthearts.co.uk/creative-journeys-activity-leaflets/
Helen Wright, the Community Rail Partnership Officer from High Peak and Hope Valley Community Rail Partnership, said:
