The Friends of Handforth Station (FoHS) were delighted to end 2025 with another totem ‘hat-trick’, completing a trio of foreign-language, branded station signs.
Lulzim Culaj (pictured above, with Friends volunteers), from Handforth eatery, Guiliano Italian Restaurant, presented a new totem to the FoHS which reads Guado di Anna. This is the Italian translation of Hanna’s Ford, which is believed to be the etymon of Handforth.

This new totem joins the two other foreign-language signs from local restaurants: a Chinese script donated by Handforth Cantonese restaurant in 2014, and one in Greek script donated by Ela By Hellas Taverna in 2020.
Lulzim from Giuliano’s said: “I am truly happy to have been able to contribute to Handforth Station, and I thank the Friends for all the work they do for the community. I am delighted to see our offering on the platform alongside the other two totems.”
Mike Bishop, FoHS President, said “Giuliano’s have been voted Cheshire’s Best Restaurant two years in a row, and in 2024 were crowned England’s Favourite Restaurant by England’s Business Awards. Many of us in the Friends have dined often in Giuliano’s, and we’re very pleased that they have added to our station’s artwork by donating this totem.”
There new totem joins the many that adorn Handforth Station. The Friends recently received a branded sign from Transport for Greater Manchester, which joined two others related to Manchester Metrolink.
