Due to planned engineering works being carried out by Network Rail in April, TransPennine Express train services will be disrupted on certain routes on certain dates. Passengers planning to travel in April, particularly around the Easter weekend, are encouraged to check services and prepare for some delays.
On the Easter weekend (Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 April), the railway will be closed between Preston & Oxenholme and Carlisle & Motherwell /Edinburgh. Trains will run between Manchester Airport and Liverpool to Preston; Oxenholme and Carlisle via Penrith; Motherwell and Glasgow Central (operated by ScotRail). Other services will be replaced with rail replacement bus services.
On Easter Monday (6 April), the railway will be closed between Carlisle and Glasgow Central, with no TransPennine Express services between Carlisle and Edinburgh. The Glasgow to Edinburgh shuttle will be suspended and all services from Liverpool will terminate at Preston. Trains will still run Manchester Airport to Carlisle; Liverpool to Preston; Motherwell to Glasgow Central (operated by ScotRail). Other services will have rail replacement buses.
From Saturday 11 to Sunday 19 April the railway will be closed between Preston, Lancaster/Carlisle, and Lockerbie. Trains will run between Manchester Airport and Preston (additionally calling at Chorley and Horwich Parkway), and Liverpool Lime Street to Preston. There are various rail replacement services and some train routes will operate only on certain dates.
