EMR, Northern and Transpennine are pleased to announce their latest step to support customers when things go wrong, by introducing an ‘always on’ ticket acceptance arrangement between their TOCs in the event of disruption.
This means that from 22 June 2025, in the event of a cancellation of their chosen service, customers holding a valid ticket will be able to travel on any East Midlands Railway (EMR), Northern or TransPennine Express (TPE) service within two hours of their cancelled train.
This applies on all routes the operators share and builds on their previous arrangement that applied on Sundays only. The new arrangement covers all days of the week. Customers will be able to travel on any reasonable route, as long as it is displayed as an option in journey planners.
The enhanced agreement means:
- Tickets will be automatically accepted during disruption on EMR, Northern and TPE trains for journeys taking place within two hours of any cancelled train (that is before or after the cancelled train)
- Certainty and flexibility for customers in the event of disruption
- Simpler processes and a reduced workload for their customer-facing colleagues and control teams
The arrangement covers both pre-planned cancellations (p-coded) and trains cancelled on the day due to unplanned disruption.
