MANCHESTER CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH ON

Join in the celebrations and enjoy sparkling entertainment and family fun to mark the arrival of the festive season. Join Key 103's Mike Toolan and Chelsea for an extra special evening of family fun, music and sparkling entertainment including:

  • Performances from X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, and Summer festival circuit favourite Mr Hudson.
  • Members of the Manchester Opera House cast of Aladdin: Eric Potts (best known as Coronation Street's Diggory Compton) as Widow Twankey; Mike McClean as Wishee Washee and Radio 2's Choir Girl of the Year 2008, Eloise Irving as Princess Jasmine.
  • 2008 Britain's Got Talent sweetheart, local girl Hollie Steele.
  • Cast members from the Library Theatre Company's Christmas Show Grimm Tales a new adaptation by Carol Ann Duffy.
  • Appearance from Horrid Henry - star of the West End & touring hit show.
  • Entertainment from Manchester Show Choir - join members of the region's newest community choir for a special performance before their appearance at the RNCM in December.
  • Motown Magic, musical highlights from the magic of Motown, re creating hits by The Four Tops, The Temptations and more.

Once again Albert Square will be adorned by a real spruce tree, standing at 11 metres high, a gift to Manchester from the city of Stavanger in Norway, and will become the central focus of the city's Christmas celebrations.

HERITAGE OPEN DAYS 10TH - 12TH SEPTEMBER - FREE ENTRANCE TO LOCAL VISITOR ATTRACTIONS

A number of local visitor attractions which can be accessed from the Crewe-Manchester line will be offering free admission as part of the national Heritage Open Days initiative from Friday 10th - Sunday 12th September.

There will also be tours of private buildings which are normally closed to the public.

CHELFORD VILLAGE CIRCULAR WALK NOW AVAILABLE

A 4 mile circular walk exploring the countryside around Chelford is now available.  The walk which starts and finishes at Chelford train station gives a perfect introduction to the picturesque countryside which surrounds the village.  The walk is available to download here.

'SCARBOROUGH FLYER' STEAM TRAIN FROM CREWE, WILMSLOW AND STOCKPORT TO YORK AND SCARBOROUGH

Every Friday from 23rd July to 10th September inclusive, the 'Scarborough Flyer' Steam Train operated by the Railway Touring Company, will run from Crewe, Wilmslow and Stockport to York and Scarborough.
