LOCAL SCHOOLS ENJOY FREE TRAIN TRAVEL
21st December 2009

Local schools have been benefiting from a Community Rail Partnership initiative which provides free train travel for school day trips. The offer enables schools to take one day trip per term with free train travel provided by the Rail Partnership.
Below is a brief description of the day provided by Karen Benson of Goostrey Community Primary School:
The Year 6 pupils at Goostrey Community Primary school recently visited the Hatworks Museum, Stockport.

Year 6 make creative hats every year and then exhibit them to parents in a Hatwalk event! This term they have been studying many aspects of The British Isles, so their finished hats will reflect British Isles themes.

They say,"The Stockport Hatworks Museum was a brilliant place for us to begin our hat studies. The Hat Gallery was so inspiring and we learned the history of felt hat making and made some wool felt ourselves. We really liked the hats that modern British hat designers have made. Some of these hats have been worn by really famous people!

When we left the museum, and for days afterwards we were looking at everyone to see what they were wearing on their head! Hats are so interesting!"
