HOLMES CHAPEL IS CHESHIRE'S BEST STAFFED STATION
20th January 2009

At the recent Awards Evening of Cheshire Best Kept Stations, Holmes Chapel Railway Station won the Best Staffed Station Award.

The Awards were made by Chris Brown, Chief Executive of Visit Chester and Cheshire, the local tourism board, at the Salt Museum, Northwich on Tuesday 20th January 2009.

Six mayors, the Chairman of the County Council and the Sheriff of Chester joined over 90 other guests in congratulating Holmes Chapel and the nine other stations that received awards.

Chelford Railway Station was declared the overall winner for 2008.

John Hulme, Organiser of Cheshire Best Kept Stations said "This award is to a unique station with unique characteristics. Padded seats, piped music in the waiting room, even a library. And it's all down to one member of staff and the local scouts".

On presenting the Awards, Chris Brown, thanked all those that had helped make Cheshire's Stations more hospitable, tidier and welcoming. He reported that Cheshire's Year of Gardens 08 - which was the focus of 2008 Awards - had been a great success and had made a significant contribution to the increase in the visitor economy. The task now was to sustain everyone's hard work into 2009 and beyond.

Awards were also made to Crewe, Delamere, Frodsham, Helsby, Knutsford, Nantwich, Neston and Wilmslow Railway Stations.
