CHELFORD WINS AWARD IN BEST KEPT STATION COMPETITION
28th January 2008
Chelford has won the tidiest station award in the Cheshire Best Kept Stations competition.
The Awards Evening for the 2007 Cheshire Best Kept Station Competition was hosted by the Salt Museum at Northwich on January 22nd. In 2007, Cheshire's Year of Gardens 08 have raised the profile of the event, and were the main sponsors of the award ceremony.
This year Cheshire is expected to attract an additional 300,000 visitors and it is important that those travelling by rail arrive at stations that are inviting and supplement the floral event they are visiting.
The awards were presented by Felicity Goodey CBE, the former BBC journalist and lifelong President of the Trustees of the Lowry in Manchester. She has also taken on the role of Chair of the Steering Group directing Cheshire's Year of Gardens 08.
Nine awards were presented, and the award for Tidiest Station went to Chelford. Jamie Ross, Northern Rail's area director said "Our partnerships with community groups such as the volunteers at Chelford have helped to improve the station environment for customers and we’re delighted their efforts have been acknowledged".
The award plaque will be displayed at the station in due course.
