5 IDEAS FOR DAYS OUT IN OCTOBER HALF TERM
26th October 2009

1. Visit to Manchester Science Festival.  The Festival features over 150 exciting and child-friendly events from Saturday 26th October to Sunday 1st November, a number of which are held at the Museum of Science and Industry.  One of the star attractions will be the fastest car in the world, the Bloodhound.  For further details, visit the Festival website.

2. Visit to Concorde and Manchester Airport viewing park.  Visit Concorde in all its finery at the Manchester Airport visitor centre and viewing park.  There are hourly trains to Manchester Airport, from where shuttle buses every 20 minutes by Busybus operate to the viewing park.  Alternatively on Saturdays and Sundays, bus 200 links Wilmslow station with the viewing park - see this webpage for further details.

3. Visit Stockport Air Raid Shelters.  Stockport Air Raid Shelters celebrates its 70th anniversary with a series of free events during the half-term break.  In particular the 1940s experience on Saturday 24th October featuring music, plays and hands-on activities, and the wartime fun and games special on Thursday 29th October, are not to be missed.  For further details, visit the Air Raid Shelters website.  The Air Raid Shelters are an easy 10 minute walk from Stockport train station.

4. Visit Staircase House in Stockport - kids go free!  From Saturday 26th October to Sunday 1st November, children get to enter free at the award-winning Staircase House, when accompanied by an adult.  Staircase House is situated in the historic Stockport marketplace and also houses the free Stockport Story museum.

5. Visit to Quarry Bank Mill, Styal.  The National Trust run Quarry Bank Mill and Styal Country Park will be hosting a range of activities in half-term week to suit all ages, including crafts, weaving and pumpkin parties!  Quarry Bank Mill can be reached by hourly bus 200 from Wilmslow station and Manchester Airport, by train to Styal (runs every two hours on Sundays), or alternatively by pleasant mile and half walk from Handforth station.
